Last June, the famous comedian, actor and pro-marijuana legalization advocate, Tommy Chong, reported to the world that he had been diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer and that he was seeking unconventional treatment using Cannabis Oil. Almost one year later, Tommy is feeling better than ever and is cancer free.

Tommy’s recent announcement, in a blog post, about his successful battle with cancer is a huge boon to those battling this illness and many others, and also for those fighting for the common-sensical liberation of this promising natural medicine:

Hemp Growing Was Once The Law In The US

HEMP IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY, highlighted a 1914 series $10 bill of a hemp harvest, and it is discussed in the video attached. The bill is printed on 100% hemp paper. 

The first Federal Reserve Bank notes were issued in 1914. This $10 bill bears the signature of Andrew Mellon, the Secretary of the Treasury under multiple presidential administrations. Mellon was also the head of several oil companies and banks. Mellon was the uncle of Harry Anslinger, the first leader of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, 1931-1961. Anslinger was the main cheerleader of the Reefer Madness misinformation campaign and the primary person responsible for marijuana prohibition.

Before you start growing your own hemp plants, it is worthwhile to read up on the history of hemp growing in the US. At one time it was legal. Not only was it legal, the law required the growing of it.

According to the book Healthy Oils, hemp is another word for the plant Cannabis sativa L. Marijuana comes from this same plant genus – as does cauliflower and broccoli. However, the strains used in consumer and industrial products contain only a negligible amount of the intoxicating substance delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.

 Thus industrial grade hemp is not marijuana. Yet, since the 1950’s the growing of hemp has been effectively prohibited.

But this has not always been the case. Going back to 1619 America’s first marijuana law was enacted at Jamestown Colony, VA. All farmers were ordered to grow Indian hemp seed. Mandatory cultivation laws were enacted in MA in 1631, in CT in 1632, and in the Chesapeake colonies in the 1700’s.

Cannabis hemp was even used as legal tender in most of the Americas from 1631 until the early 1800’s. The reason for making it legal tender was to encourage farmers to grow more. You could then pay your taxes with cannabis hemp throughout America for over 200 years. If you did not grow hemp during periods of shortages, you could be jailed.

In fact, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson used enslaved African labor to grow this crop on their plantations.

Hemp has been grown for over 12,000 years for textiles, fiber, and food. There are established hemp growers in China, Romania, Hungary, and France. It is also now grown in Australia, Canada, Britain and Germany where for decades there had been none. The US has an experimental crop being grown in Hawaii under a government license.

Hemp is beginning to make a comeback in the US. Fashion designers and mass producers use it. It is also added to personal care products such as soap, shampoo and skin care products. Hemp seed oil naturally replenishes skin moisture and helps with the skin‘s elasticity. The omega-6 fatty acids are said to be helpful for sufferers of eczema, and psoriasis and other dry skin conditions.

Hemp seed oil is also used for cooking and is extremely high in polyunsaturated content (at least 80%). Because it is a very good source of omega fatty acids, adding it to your diet helps to substantially improve the skin’s natural elasticity and appearance.

In England, I found it easy to find all sorts of hemp seed products on the supermarket shelves.

Hemp Production Should Be Legal

You have probably heard that hemp, a variety of cannabis sativa (marijuana) that lacks the high-inducing compounds has a multitude of industrial uses ranging from paper, textile, plastics, and food… and that’s barely scratching the surface.

 To say that hemp is one of the most useful plants in existence is not an overstatement. I’m not going to give an A-Z list of all the uses for hemp but I would encourage you to read up on its many uses and take into consideration that hemp is easy to grow, it’s sustainable, and it’s very environmentally friendly.

The Downside to Hemp

The downside to hemp is that it’s not being produced in America. And it’s really not a downside, it’s a travesty and an abomination. Hemp is legally grown all over the world. Spain, China, Japan, Korea, and Ireland all produce hemp and enjoy the economic and environmental benefits that are involved.

Do you know which country produces the most hemp in the world? China. Do you know which country imports the most hemp in the world? The United States. Does anyone else view that as a missed opportunity?

The Foolishness of Hemp Prohibition

Hemp is illegal to produce in the United States because of its distant relation to THC-laden cannabis sativa. Hemp will not get you high, but because it looks like a plant that will, its management and oversight has been handed off to the bureaucratic dunce cap known as the Drug Enforcement Administration.

This is stupid to a mind blowing degree because hemp is not a drug and has no narcotic value whatsoever. It makes about as much sense as entrusting the ports of San Francisco to the IRS.

The DEA is not interested in opening up new economies in America, it’s not interested in improving environmental issues, it’s not interested in progressive, make-sense legislation. The DEA is interested in obtaining and maintaining power. Hemp has so many uses and positive attributes that it could be considered a “super plant” the same way pomegranates are a “superfood”.

 But, rather than figure out a way (not hard) to implement production in America and generate organic growth, literally and figuratively, the push to legalize hemp production remains deadlocked.

It’s not for lack of effort. North Dakota, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Oregon, California, Montana, West Virginia and Vermont have legalized cultivation of industrial hemp legal, but have not begun production because of pouting from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The cited concern is usually that, “someone might hide a real marijuana plant in the hemp field.” Really? That’s a sad justification to halt responsible and environmentally friendly economic expansion in the United States.

Hemp Can Rebuild the Nation

I saw an article the other day about Hempcrete, a hemp-based building material. Hempcrete is similar in function to concrete but made with hemp and lime. It’s not quite strong enough to use for structural support and needs to be doubled up with framing but it provides fantastic insulation and other benefits. Check out the above video for a short and very informative overview. If I were about to embark on a building project, I would very strongly consider using a product like this.

Call to Action

It is absolutely time to end the obtuse-minded prohibition of hemp production in the United States. Obama DOJ Set To Intimidate Any State That Legalizes Marijuana

Depending on the outcome of initiatives in three states, a confrontation awaits between the U.S. Department of Justice and advocates for legalizing marijuana.

On November 6, voters in Colorado, Washington and Oregon will decide whether to legalize and tax marijuana sales. If one or more of the measures passes, and President Barack Obama is reelected, expect the Justice Department to take action to stop any state from decriminalizing the popular herb.

NOTE:  WA502 is 68 pages of regulations, it's not legalization.  Legalization means one could buy the natural herb Cannabis sativa/indica as easily as one could buy a watermelon.  It doesn't take 68 pages of regulations to buy a cabbage, does it?  Not yet anyway. 

While I support the legalization of all natural herbs, since our Creator does not make mistakes with nature, I don't support 502.  It's designed to raise billions of dollars for the states by punitive taxation and complete and utter control over the Cannabis industry.  It will likely triple the price for medicinal patients, limit availability, diminish quality and create whole new cash opportunities for fines, forfeitures for the state.  Vote NO on WA 502

In an outtake in a recent interview with “60 Minutes,” Deputy Attorney General James Cole proclaimed that the federal government is prepared to stop any “dangers” associated with state-sanctioned recreational pot.

“We’re going to take a look at whether or not there are dangers to the community from the sale of marijuana and we’re going to go after those dangers,” Cole told the television news magazine.

A crackdown on drug legalization would follow other efforts by the Obama administration to shutdown medical marijuana dispensaries operating within state law in California and elsewhere.

If Mitt Romney wins the presidential election, he would probably take the same position as Obama, having stated that marijuana is a “gateway drug” and that he would fight legalization “tooth and nail.”

At that time Hemp was considered one of the most important medicinal plants with amazing healing properties.   It still is today.

The long history and battles over Hemp offers many threads of intrigue and suspense for another time and place.

Hemp products such as hemp textiles, fabrics, hemp protein, hemp shakes, hemp oil and hulled hemp seeds are legal to purchase and use in the United States, but current federal laws prohibit growing it because of protected special interests.

Nothing Is Perfect

Does Cannabis Stop Cancer From Spreading

The data is very strong and there’s no toxicity associated with A compound found in cannabis could halt the spread of many forms of aggressive cancer, scientists say. The first research to show marijuana’s anti-tumor properties was presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in Los Angeles in 2007 demonstrating that THC may activate biological pathways that halt cancer cell division or block development of blood vessels that feed tumors. It then became a target of synthetic research into THC for drugs such as ImClone System Inc.’s Erbitux and Amgen Inc.’s Vectibix. Researchers have now found that the compound, called cannabidiol, had the ability to ‘switch off’ the gene responsible for metastasis in an aggressive form of breast cancer. Importantly, this substance does not produce the psychoactive properties of the cannabis plant. The team from the California Pacific Medical Center, in San Francisco, first spotted its potential five years ago, after it stopped the proliferation of human breast cancer cells in the lab. Last year they published a study that found a similar effect in mice. Now they say they are on the verge of publishing further animal study results that expand these results further. Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention. CBD (Cannabidiol), one of the main constituents of the cannabis plant has been proven medically to relieve many diseases including the inhibition of cancer cell growth. Recent studies have shown it to be an effective atypical anti-psychotic in treating schizophrenia. CBD also interferes with the amount of THC your brain processes, balancing the psychotropic effect of marijuana. That is precisely why the power of raw cannabis is turning heads. Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, study co-leader Dr Sean McAllister, said: ‘The preclinical trial data is very strong, and there’s no toxicity. There’s really a lot or research to move ahead with and to get people excited.’ While he, along with colleague Dr Pierre Desprez acknowledge that they are some way off from turning their finding into a pill, they are already developing human trial models. They hope to eventually test the drug in combination with current chemotherapies. Professor Desprez had previously found that a protein called ID-1 seemed to play a role in causing breast cancer to spread. Meanwhile Dr McAllister had discovered the cannabidiol had anti-cancer potential. The pair teamed up to see if they could treat a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer called ‘triple negative.’ This form, which affects 15 per cent of patients, doesn’t have three hormone receptors that the most successful therapies target. Cells from this cancer have high levels of ID-1. When they exposed cells from this cancer to cannabidiol they were shocked to find the cells not only stopped acting ‘crazy’ but also returned to a healthy normal state. They discovered that the compound had turned off the overexpression of ID-1, stopping them from travelling to distant tissues. Other potentially treatable cancers are forms of leukaemia, lung, ovarian and brain cancers, which also have high levels of ID-1. Dr Desprez has a particular reason for wanting to create a treatment as quickly as possible – his sister was recently diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer at the age of 41. Her condition is currently receptive to hormone therapies but Professor Desprez fears it could recur in a form that lacks hormone receptors. He said: ‘I want to be ready for that. There is a deadline.’ Cannabis is a Class B drug that is illegal to have, give away or sell. “If cannabis were discovered in an Amazon rainforests today, people would be clambering to make as much use as they could out of the potential benefits of the plant,” said Donald L. Abrams, MD, Chief of Hematology and Oncology at San Francisco General Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University California. Dr. Abrams is widely known for his research on medical cannabis applications. “Unfortunately, it carries with it a long and not so long history of being a persecuted plant,” he added.

Most Statewide Marajuana Initiatives Leading ~ Most Worst Than Medicial Cannabis Laws

Four of the six statewide marijuana initiatives appearing on the November 2012 ballot are solidly favored among likely voters.

Voters in six states - Arkansas, Colorado, Massachusetts, Montana, Oregon, and Washington - will be deciding on marijuana-specific ballot measures this November. In Massachusetts, voters will decide on Question 3, a statewide proposal that seeks to allow for the physician-recommended possession and state-licensed distribution of cannabis for therapeutic purposes. Arkansas voters will decide on a similar measure, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act of 2012. Montana voters will decide on Initiative Referendum 124, which is a referendum on Senate Bill 423 - a 2011 measure that seeks to restrict the state's 2004 voter approved medical cannabis law.

Colorado voters will decide on Amendment 64, which immediately allows for the legal possession of up to one ounce of marijuana and/or the cultivation of up to six cannabis plants by those persons age 21 and over. Longer-term, the measure seeks to establish regulations governing the commercial production and distribution of marijuana by licensed retailers.

Oregon voters will decide on Measure 80, the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act, which provides for the state-licensed production and retail sale of cannabis to adults. The measure does not impose state-licensing or taxation requirements upon those who wish to cultivate cannabis for non-commercial purposes.

Finally, in Washington, voters will decide on Initiative 502, which seeks to regulate the production and sale of limited amounts of marijuana for adults. The measure also removes criminal penalties specific to the adult possession of up to one ounce of cannabis for personal use.

According to the most recently available polling, several of these measures hold firm leads among likely voters. In Colorado, 51 percent of respondents say that they are backing Amendment 64, according to the latest SurveyUSA telephone poll of 615 likely voters. In Massachusetts, a strong majority of likely voters support Question 3. A newly released Suffolk University/7News poll of 600 likely voters finds that 59 percent of respondents support the initiative versus 35 percent who oppose it.

 In Montana, a majority of likely voters do not support enacting limits on the state's medical marijuana law, according to a just-published poll of 656 likely voters.

 And in Washington, nearly six out of ten voters say they intend to decide in favor of I-502, according to a Survey USA poll released late last week. Fifty-seven percent of respondents said that they will vote 'yes' on the measure, versus only 34 percent who said they would vote 'no.' Nine percent remain undecided.

In Oregon, a July poll not specific to the initiative conducted by Public Policy Polling reported that only 43 percent of Oregonians believed that cannabis use should be legal, versus 46 percent who endorsed it remaining illegal. A more recent Survey USA poll of 552 likely voters reported that 37 percent of respondents favored Measure 80, while 41 percent said that they opposed it. Democrat voters said that they backed the measure by a vote of 2 to 1, while Republicans opposed it by a margin of 4 to 1.

US Government Holds Medical Cannabis Patent

Twice as many patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) that were prescribed cannabis reported relief from muscle stiffness over the placebo while cannabis also provided better relief of body pain, muscle spasms, and sleep disturbances. Oddly enough, the US government holds patents on the medicinal attributes of marijuana's usage. This is the same government that denies its citizens the legal right to use medical marijuana.

It seems logical to conclude that if our government now owns the rights to a "natural substance" through patenting that the U.S. government knows that marijuana has valid medicinal properties. So why is the U.S. government so adamant in outlawing medical marijuana and unwilling to admit that marijuana has valid medicinal properties? Some 60 percent of Americans in our "democratic" society believe that doctors should be allowed to prescribe marijuana and yet the man with the gun and handcuffs says "NO." That's not democracy!

The patent
U.S. Patent 6630507 titled "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants" is assigned to The United States of America, and claims - "Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of a wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants. For example, in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia."

A patent is granted by the government and used to protect the right of the inventor. NEWSFLASH The U.S. government did not invent cannabis! By definition, you should not be able to patent something that grows naturally. But the U.S. government has a patent to control the use of cannabis.

Marijuana is cancer protective?
But the benefits of cannabinoids don't stop with MS: One study (listed in cancer.gov) suggested that cannabinoids may have a protective effect against the development of certain types of tumors. During this two-year study, a dose-related decrease in the incidence of hepatic adenoma tumors and hepatocellular carcinoma was observed along with decreased incidences of benign tumors in other organs. In another study (again listed in cancer.gov), cannabis was found to inhibit the growth of Lewis lung adenocarcinoma cells along with other tumors. Cannabinoids appear to kill tumor cells without harming the non-transformed cells.

A Costa Rican study found that chronic marijuana smokers who were also cigarette smokers were less likely to develop cancer than cigarette smokers who didn't use marijuana. Cannabis dilates the alveoli (tiny air sacks in the lungs), allowing toxins to be more easily eliminated. Nicotine conversely constricts the alveoli while cannabis neutralizes the constriction.

It may be "made in the USA," but the hemp it uses is imported from nations like China because under the Obama administration, industrial hemp remains illegal to grow in the USA.

How to really create more jobs in America: LEGALIZE HEMP

If Obama really wanted to create jobs and lift America's economy, he could simply issue an executive order declaring all industrial hemp to be legal for growing and selling in America.

I'm not saying I agree with the abuse of power of the President invoking executive orders (and bypassing Congress), but if Obama is going to use executive orders, he could use them to restore freedom by legalize farming and helping create industrial hemp jobs in America.

But Obama refuses to do this. While more and more farmers declare bankruptcy and the economic backbone of America is shattered, he buys hemp from China instead of allowing American farmers to grow it right at home!

While Obama leaves U.S. farmers to be crushed under agricultural bankruptcy, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden is actually trying to do something to restore economic abundance to America's farmers. He, along with U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, is working to legalizing industrial hemp farming. As NaturalNews has reported:

Columbia Rules Personal Drug Use Is Not A Crime

The Constitutional Court of Colombia approved a plan that will drop all criminal penalties for individuals caught with small amounts of marijuana or cocaine, according to Spanish-language media reports.

That means anyone caught with less than 22 grams of marijuana, or one gram of cocaine, will no longer be subject to arrest or prosecution. People who are caught intoxicated in public can only be sent to receive medical or psychological treatment for their impairment.

The proposal, first introduced last year by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, is intended to refocus law enforcement resources on drug-runners and cartels and away from individual users.

“Today’s judicial ruling in Colombia represents yet another important step in the growing political and judicial movement in Latin America and Europe to stop treating people who consume drugs as criminals worthy of incarceration,” Ethan Nadalmann, who heads the U.S.-based Drug Policy Alliance, said in prepared text.

“The Colombian Constitutional Court’s decision is obviously most important in Colombia, where it represents both a powerful repudiation of [the former president's] push to criminalize people who use drugs and a victory for President Juan Manuel Santos’s call for a new direction in drug policy,” he added.

The measure is just one of a number of drug war reforms Colombia’s current regime has pursued. The nation’s Chamber of Representatives approved a bill in May that would legalize the cultivation of drugs that grow as plants, like marijuana, opium, coca and poppies.

Other countries, like Mexico, Guatemala and Brazil, are considering similar measures, and South American leaders recently met in Guatemala to discuss a new regional security accord that would include drug legalization, but the summit failed to produce an agreement after several key leaders failed to show up.

Colombia, a key U.S. ally in the region, has historically bent over backwards to enforce U.S. drug policies, going so far as to host U.S. troops on their military bases and allow U.S. drone surveillance of drug smuggling routes. They’ve even accepted prior U.S. administrations sending aircraft to spray hidden poppy and coca fields with toxic herbicides known to cause a variety of adverse health effects in humans.

President Barack Obama told South American leaders earlier this year that he’s willing to have a conversation on drug reforms, but insisted that legalization is not the answer. As a candidate for the U.S. Senate, Obama claimed he supported decriminalizing marijuana possession, but he’s not favored or even acknowledged that position as president. Instead, Obama has insisted that America’s war on drugs will not end on his watch, but he has voiced support for some reforms, like an increased focus on prevention and treatment over incarceration.

Chong Treats Prostate Cancer With Hemp Oil

One-half of the German award-winning comedy duo Cheech & Chong, Tommy Chong has recently announced his battle against prostate cancer. While Chong was diagnosed about a month ago with prostate cancer, he was told by his doctor that a ‘slow stage 1′ cancer has been active for a ‘long time’. Chong, known for appearing in a number of films based on hippies and drug culture movements, and his role in ‘That 70′s Show’, revealed his diagnosis to support the decriminalization of marijuana use – as expected, Chong has been treating his cancer with the use of hemp oil.

“I’ve got prostate cancer, and I’m treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis,” Chong said. “So [legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested.”

Interestingly, Chong says that he started having prostate-related problem only once he was drug-free for three years. ”So I know it had nothing to do with cannabis…Cannabis is a cure,” Chong said. He did note, however, that he doesn’t smoke marijuana as a means of treating his cancer, but rather ingests hemp oil ”at night, so I won’t be woozy all day.” “I’m taking it as a medicine,” he said.

Chong, like many others, has the same question: why is marijuana illegal when the plant is powerful enough to fight one of the leading causes of death? This is a question repeatedly being raised as the evidence showcasing the relationship between marijuana and cancer continuously builds up and unfolds.

Back in 2006, one study was developed by a team of medical researchers at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Pharmacology and Toxicology department on leukemia patients. The researchers essentially outlined that if taken daily for an extended period of time, cannabis oil actually reverses the growth of cancer and possibly leads to remission in the patient – with zero added side effects.

In another less scientific, but very powerful example of how cannabis can be utilized to fight cancer, a 3-year-old son survived brain cancer thanks to the use of marijuana oil. The 3-year-old began with intense chemotherapy, but this mainstream cancer treatment was less than effective. In a last attempt to save his son’s life, a man named Mike Hyde pulled his son off of all medications, and begin secretly administering .3 milligrams of marijuana oil through his G-tube. Hyde attributes his son’s survival to the marijuana oil implementation, and was told that it was a miracle that his son began sitting up and laughing again.

Not only should the substance be legal to use based on each and every person’s natural born right, but the benefits of medical marijuana can be positively life-changing.

DEA & IRS With Blazing Guns Close Down A Legal School

In the early morning hours of April 2, federal agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the IRS, in full battle gear, swept down on 1600 Broadway in Oakland, CA and did the unthinkable: they closed a school. When the Feds left later that same day (under the protection of the local Oakland Police Department), they carted away several office computers, file cabinets, and dozens of marijuana plants.

Oaksterdam University had been operating legally in Oakland since 2007. The brainchild of entrepreneur Richard Lee, Oaksterdam was a trade school of sorts whose part-time professional faculty provided educational services that detailed the science, law, and commercial opportunities associated with cannabis (marijuana). Over 15,000 students had paid tuition for such services over the years and the thriving university community had contributed mightily to the revival of downtown Oakland.

Let's be clear. Oaksterdam was NOT a drug or marijuana dispensary (there are several licensed dispensaries in Oakland) and never sold cannabis. The pot plants that the DEA hauled away were being grown and displayed solely for educational purposes related directly to the curriculum. The instructors who taught at Oaksterdam were engaged in a legitimate educational activity with students who paid tuition for those services. Nonetheless, the IRS and DEA agents came in with guns (and yet to be undisclosed federal warrants) and the school, for all practical purposes, has now been shuttered. Where is the ACLU?

The raid at Oaksterdam (and the simultaneous raid by the IRS at Richard Lee's private residence where records and bank accounts were seized) was not totally unexpected. Indeed, the federal authorities over the past several months have displayed an increasing hostility to the public's growing acceptance of the availability of medical marijuana and to the commerce associated with supplying it to patients.

Despite the fact that medical marijuana is legal in 16 states, the DEA has recently seized or threatened to seize the assets of hundreds of landlords in California who rent facilities for the dispensing of medical marijuana. Richard Lee, the owner of Oaksterdam, and an outspoken advocate and financial "angel" for marijuana law reform in California, is simply the latest victim of an overall federal pushback to silence the growing movement to rationalize cannabis consumption in the U. S.

The chilling effect of federal harassment is already working. Lee, who was already under the gun with a 2010 IRS audit for alleged improper business deductions, has now severed his relationship with Oaksterdam and has publicly stated that he is "stepping back" from several cannabis related activities. And as the fear of asset seizure closes dozens of cannabis dispensaries in California, the reform mood clearly has turned gloomy.

Several important legal questions beg to be answered. First, since California had long ago legalized the "cultivation and possession" of cannabis for medical purposes (Prop. 215, 1996), under what authority can the Feds threaten local licensed medical dispensaries that are operating consistent with the intent of state law? Secondly, why hasn't California's attorney general Kamala Harris brought immediate suit against the Feds to halt the asset seizures and general harassment of local businessmen?

Finally, in the case of Oaksterdam University, why don't private schools, licensed by the city, have the right to exist (without federal interference) and determine their own curriculum and display native plants as part of a legitimate educational experience? And if they don't have these basic rights, what sort of country do we really live in?

Economists Agree That Legalizing Hemp Could Save Taxpayers Billions Yearly

Marijuana prohibition currently costs taxpayers billions of dollars a year to enforce, and it accomplishes little or nothing beneficial in terms of economic benefits. On the contrary, legalizing marijuana would not only save taxpayers billions of dollars a year in unnecessary costs, but it would also jumpstart the economy to the tune of $100 billion a year or more, say some economists.

In an open letter written to the President, Congress, State Governors, and State Legislators, more than 550 economists, including several nobel laureates, draw attention to a report authored by Professor Jeffrey A. Miron that highlights the potential economic benefits of marijuana decriminalization. Entitled The Budgetary Implications of Marijuana Prohibition, the report states that legalizing, taxing, and regulating marijuana would do wonders to reduce inflated budgets and generate new revenue streams.'

Juicing Cannabis Saves Lives

A typical first reaction is to associate marijuana consumption with its psychoactive effects. However, THC only becomes psychoactive when heated, like when traditionally smoked or cooked. The marijuana's abilities as a painkiller are generally perceived to be the result of its psychoactivity - so much so that the intensity of a plant's psychoactive effects is often used as a gauge of its medical potency. Contrary to intuition, this isn't true!

The medical properties of marijuana are actually destroyed when heated or aged, as it becomes psychoactive. Heating converts 600mg of non-psychoactive THC acid into 10mg of psychoactive THC. Here's where the exchange for medical effects occurs. While the 10mg retain some medicinal effects, there is only a fraction of the THC left. In simplified terms, in the raw plant, THC acid isn't psychoactive, but acts as a very powerful medicine, up to 400 times more powerful than when smoked.

Healthful communication

Scientific American, in 2004, published an article called "The Brain's Own Marijuana", in which they asserted that the brain releases chemicals that are structurally and functionally similar to cannabinoids - the reactive property in marijuana. THC is the cannabinoid that people are most familiar with, but this is only one of 80. In normal synaptic nerve function, the signals are uni-directional, and the receiver forwards the signal, but never notifies the sender that the message has been received.

Cannabinoids maintain communication with the original transmitter so that it is aware that the message has been received and is being worked on. For example, if a neuron sends a pain signal, normally it would just keep sending the message until the message becomes false. The cannabinoids turn every cell into a manager with increased oversight.
