'Reports indicate that more than 500 protesters have been detained since August 20 during sit-ins and rallies against the proposed USD 7-billion Keystone XL pipeline designed to carry Canadian crude from Northern Alberta to Gulf Coast refineries in Texas.
The US government has decided to expand pipelines that will bring oil from Alberta's oil sands reserves into the US. However, environmentalists maintain that the pipeline will pose serious threats to America's agricultural heartland, the CNN reported on Tuesday.'
