#Sunflowers Against Fukushima Radiation
"We plant sunflowers, field mustard, amaranthus and cockscomb, which are all believed to absorb radiation," said the monk. "So far we have grown at least 200,000 flowers (at this temple) and distributed many more seeds. At least 8 million sunflowers blooming in Fukushima originated from here."
Scientists are currently testing the effectiveness of sunflowers used to battle radiation.
One local villager with a home near a radioactive hot spot found that sunflowers helped reduce radiation to exceed government safety levels, MSNBC reports.

Japan Guide To Decontamination
That national plan may be something like the one that has been apparently released by the Japanese Society of Radiation Safety Management, and it relies on the citizens' effort to locate the high radiation "hot spots" and decontaminate using the household cleaning tools and materials, as if radioactive cesium and strontium and plutonium and cobalt should be no different from dirt and rust.
One great thing about this citizen decon idea is that it won't cost much at all to the national government, other than some support money given to neighborhood associations.

The following are the recent happenings in Yokohama City, as I picked from the message board maintained by Yokohama City Assemblyman Masataka Ota, who's been fighting to remove contaminated food items including cesium beef from children's school lunches.
Contaminated beef:
While the City fed kindergarteners and school children with domestic beef contaminated with radioactive cesium despite protests from the concerned parents, the cafeteria at Yokohama City Hall for the city employees and guests were serving beef imported from Australia.
6 elementary schools served radioactive beef 5 times, and 22 schools served it 4 times.
Radioactive summer school:
The City is determined to keep sending school children to the summer school in an elevated radiation area in Gunma Prefecture. The officials insist it is safe, because they are told it's safe. Never mind that nearby locations have levels like 0.50 microsievert/hour (official), and a citizen measured as high as 1.26 microsievert/hour in the very area that the children may go to.
Bringing water bottles to schools:
At least one (but there seem to be many) school allows children to carry water bottles if they want, but they have to leave their bottles in the school principal's office, and when they want to drink water they must come to the principal's office to drink.
This is bullying and harassment of children by the school principal. Quite an education.

It was the former Google CEO’s remarks about the rationale for this policy that were most interesting: He didn’t just say—as Vic Gundotra, the Google executive in charge of the new social network has—that having real names maintains a certain tone of behavior that is preferable to anonymous forums (an argument that online-community pioneer Derek Powazek has also made). According to Carvin, Schmidt said the reason Google needs users with real names is that the company sees Google+ as the core of an identity platform it is building that can be used for other things:

US Newborn Death Rate Tied With Qatar
Great: so now, the US has the dubious distinction of being tied with Qatar, Croatia, and the UAE in newborn infant deaths?!?
Something is fundamentally wrong with a medical delivery system, which purports to be "the world's best" to have had this happen. There has to be a better way to prevent this, and these numbers are absolutely shameful.
Every baby deserves the best opportunity to live and thrive, and that means consistent prenatal care and counseling for the mother, and the best birthing/delivery enviornment possible.

Bird Flu Hype Time
Is bird flu mounting a comeback? The United Nations has issued a warning, saying wild bird migrations have brought the deadly influenza virus back to previously virus-free countries and that a mutant strain of H5N1 was spreading in Asia.
The strain, which can apparently sidestep defenses of existing vaccines, is spreading in China and Vietnam, the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization said in a statement on Monday. It urged greater surveillance to ensure that any outbreaks are contained.
Last week, the World Health Organization reported that a 6-year-old Cambodian girl died Aug. 14 from bird flu, the eighth person to die from H5N1 avian influenza this year in Cambodia.
Vietnam suspended its springtime poultry vaccination this year, the U.N. said. Most of the northern and central parts of the country – where the virus is endemic – have been invaded by the new strain.
Elsewhere, the U.N. says bird migrations over the past two years have brought H5N1 to countries that for years had been virus-free, including Israel, the Palestinian territories, Bulgaria, Romania, Nepal and Mongolia.
“Wild birds may introduce the virus, but people’s actions in poultry production and marketing spread it,” said the U.N. agency’s chief veterinary officer, Juan Lubroth.
Globally, there have been 331 human deaths from 565 confirmed bird flu cases since 2003 when it was first detected, the WHO said.
The virus was eliminated from most of the 63 countries infected at its peak in 2006, but it remained endemic in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Seasonal influenza ~ generally occurs yearly from November through April, peaking in January and February. Viruses need to have a warm environment in which to thrive. You will not get the flu if you live outside in a cold environment, as an extreme example. These times frames are consistent with more time spent indoors, with warmer temperatures and a poorer air quality.
You can not “catch” the flu if you have a robust immune system. I have never had the flu.

Hidden within their own statistics is a much different picture.

Doctors who don’t test to see if the patient died from influenza but think that influenza was the cause. These numbers are irresponsible & irrelevant, they needed something for the death certificate and thought influenza might fit the ticket. Here are those numbers for 2002:
Influenza, virus not identified: 628
Influenza with pneumonia, virus not identified: 291
Influenza with other respiratory manifestations, influenza not identified: 323
Influenza with other manifestations, influenza not identified: 14
Total unconfirmed but “suspected” influenza deaths for 2002 was 1,256.

In order to massage 198 deaths into 36,000 deaths, the CDC uses their magical math and exaggerates by about 182 times the true numbers. Some health professionals may attempt to justify the numbers by claiming that influenza leads to pneumonia, subsequent diseases and eventual death. But this is a broad misstatement and not factual. Obviously not everyone with influenza gets pneumonia. The American Lung Association claims that pneumonia has more than 30 causes, only one of which is the influenza virus, that means there are at least 29 other possible causes.
A CDC spokesman, Mr. Curtis Allen told Insight Magazine,
“There are a couple problems with determining the number of deaths related to the flu because most people don't die from influenza - they die from “complications” of influenza - so the numbers [of deaths] are based on mathematical formulas.
We don't know exactly how many people get the flu each year because it's not a reportable disease and most physicians don't do the test [nasal swab] to indicate whether [the symptoms are caused by] influenza.”
So that massaged “36,000 deaths nationwide” starts with a factual “we don't know” and grows into from “complications” which is often Big Pharma speak for pharmaceutical interventions, and results in a computer generated, gross misrepresentation, wild-pulled-from-the-sky-guess.....created out of thin air “fact”..... garbage in, garbage out, rather than an actual number.
Pandemic Flu - Can occur at any time during the year and is the result of a new influenza strain to which there is no developed viral immunity and for which a “protective” vaccine has yet to be created. It rapidly spreads from person to person ( not from pig to person, chicken to person, seal to person, whale to person, horse to person or cat to person) until large regions are infected.
Before a Pandemic can occur there must be sustained person to person transmission of the infection. All cases to date of Avian flu have occurred via animal to human transmission. With only one case of potential human to human transmission and my personal guess on that was that the poultry worker took home an infected chicken which infected another family member, but to admit that would cause him to be fired.
There is no substantiated evidence that “sooner or later” the H5N1 strain will mutate into a strain that can be easily passed between humans. That's as irresponsible and scientifically unsupported as saying “sooner or later” humans will grow wings so they can avoid standing in long lines at the airport.
There have been three flu pandemics in the 1900s:
The Spanish Flu in 1918 which killed 55,000 in the U.S.
The Asian Flu in 1957 which killed 69,800 in the U.S.
The Hong Kong Flu in 1969 which resulted in 33,800 deaths in the U.S.
There is substantial data supporting all of these pandemics were vaccine induced. And of course the actual numbers for influenza deaths without other complications would be much significantly lower as in the CDC's example.
Avian Flu - Infects birds.
Millions of poultry and other foul have been slaughtered because of it. Could this really be about commerce? The death rate from H5N1 infection is highly overstated.
According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAQ), the avian influenza virus is easier to destroy than other influenza viruses. It appears that it is very sensitive to detergents — i.e., soap — which destroy the outer fat-containing layer of the virus. This layer is needed to enter cells of animals and, therefore, destroys the infectivity. So wash your hands before touching your face always, but especially if you happen to work on a poultry factory-farm.
How many confirmed deaths from Human “Bird Flu” have been reported to date?

Reported by the World Health Organization from Dec 26, 1997 to October 24, 2005 there were 121 confirmed H5N1 infections with 62 deaths, for an apparent death rate of 52 percent.
So all of this fear mongering for 62 world wide deaths in almost a six year period? Recent Internet World Stats (Usage and Population Statistics), the population of Asia is 3,622,994,130. If you divide 65 alleged deaths of “bird flu” into the total population of 3,622,994,130 that is about ONE DEATH FOR EVERY 54 MILLION PEOPLE.
Pandemic or propaganda? And why? Qui bono?
Using those same numbers it would be similar to a epidemic of “bird flu” in the united States with only 5-6 deaths. Is that rational? Is that responsible or mere speculation? Could there be some behind the scenes agendas? To see who might benefit, follow the money.

According to American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, each year in the US skateboarding injuries cause about 50,000 visits to emergency departments. In addition, more than 1500 children need to be hospitalized for head injuries or disabilities that frequently result in loss of vision, hearing or speech, as well as changes in thinking and behavior. So there are 50,000 skateboard emergency room visits yearly and a potential for 5-6 bird flu deaths. Which could be considered more probable, dangerous or risky? Skateboarding accidents or “catching” bird flu and dying from it?
What are the symptoms of bird flu in humans?
According to (WHO) World Health Organization (www.who.int/csr/don/2004_01_15/en/), the symptoms of avian influenza (Type H5N1) are:
* Fever
* Sore throat
* Cough
possibly, viral pneumonia
According to the (CDC) Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/gen-info/facts.htm) gives the following symptoms for avian flu:

* Sore throat and muscle aches
Do you find these symptoms alarmingly vague and non specific? Are they the same symptoms for seasonal influenza? Potential martial law and quarantines for these symptoms? Slaughtering thousands of marketable & edible poultry for these symptoms?
A healthy person can have a temperature over 100 degrees on a hot day and not have influenza. A cough can be triggered from allergies, asthma, pollution, bronchitis, pneumonia, chemtrails, medications, smoking, dust, pet dander, mold, a cold or dozens of other imbalances, since it didn't define what type of cough, dry, chronic, acute, productive etc would be associated with bird flu. Muscle aches can also be from numerous other reasons other than Avian flu.
Is There a Avian Flu Vaccine Available?
If there were would you want to risk your life taking it?
The CDC states: “Yearly, adults can average one to three and children three to six influenza-like illnesses (ILIs). The vaccine does not prevent influenza-like illnesses caused by infectious agents other than influenza [strains found in the shot], and many persons vaccinated against influenza will still get the flu.” Translated that means a vaccine can ONLY have the potential to be effective against a particular strain and there are over 800 strains.
As for me, no vaccinations thank you!

It rapidly spreads from person to person ( not from pig to person, chicken to person, seal to person, whale to person, horse to person or cat to person) until large regions are infected.
Before a Pandemic can occur there must be sustained person to person transmission of the infection. All cases to date of Avian flu have occurred via animal to human transmission. With only one case of potential human to human transmission and my personal guess on that was that the poultry worker took home an infected chicken which infected another family member, but to admit that would cause him to be fired.
There is no substantiated evidence that “sooner or later” the H5N1 strain will mutate into a strain that can be easily passed between humans. That's as irresponsible and scientifically unsupported as saying “sooner or later” humans will grow wings so they can avoid standing in long lines at the airport.
There have been three flu pandemics in the 1900s:
The Spanish Flu in 1918 which killed 55,000 in the U.S.
The Asian Flu in 1957 which killed 69,800 in the U.S.
The Hong Kong Flu in 1969 which resulted in 33,800 deaths in the U.S.
There is substantial data supporting all of these pandemics were vaccine induced. And of course the actual numbers for influenza deaths without other complications would be much significantly lower as in the CDC's example.
Avian Flu - Infects birds.
Millions of poultry and other foul have been slaughtered because of it. Could this really be about commerce? The death rate from H5N1 infection is highly overstated.
According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAQ), the avian influenza virus is easier to destroy than other influenza viruses. It appears that it is very sensitive to detergents — i.e., soap — which destroy the outer fat-containing layer of the virus. This layer is needed to enter cells of animals and, therefore, destroys the infectivity. So wash your hands before touching your face always, but especially if you happen to work on a poultry factory-farm.
How many confirmed deaths from Human “Bird Flu” have been reported to date?

Reported by the World Health Organization from Dec 26, 1997 to October 24, 2005 there were 121 confirmed H5N1 infections with 62 deaths, for an apparent death rate of 52 percent.
So all of this fear mongering for 62 world wide deaths in almost a six year period? Recent Internet World Stats (Usage and Population Statistics), the population of Asia is 3,622,994,130. If you divide 65 alleged deaths of “bird flu” into the total population of 3,622,994,130 that is about ONE DEATH FOR EVERY 54 MILLION PEOPLE.
Pandemic or propaganda? And why? Qui bono?
Using those same numbers it would be similar to a epidemic of “bird flu” in the united States with only 5-6 deaths. Is that rational? Is that responsible or mere speculation? Could there be some behind the scenes agendas? To see who might benefit, follow the money.
To add another comparative perspective.
According to American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, each year in the US skateboarding injuries cause about 50,000 visits to emergency departments. In addition, more than 1500 children need to be hospitalized for head injuries or disabilities that frequently result in loss of vision, hearing or speech, as well as changes in thinking and behavior. So there are 50,000 skateboard emergency room visits yearly and a potential for 5-6 bird flu deaths. Which could be considered more probable, dangerous or risky? Skateboarding accidents or “catching” bird flu and dying from it?
What are the symptoms of bird flu in humans?
According to (WHO) World Health Organization (www.who.int/csr/don/2004_01_15/en/), the symptoms of avian influenza (Type H5N1) are:

* Sore throat
* Cough
possibly, viral pneumonia
According to the (CDC) Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/gen-info/facts.htm) gives the following symptoms for avian flu:

* Sore throat and muscle aches
Do you find these symptoms alarmingly vague and non specific? Are they the same symptoms for seasonal influenza? Potential martial law and quarantines for these symptoms? Slaughtering thousands of marketable & edible poultry for these symptoms?
A healthy person can have a temperature over 100 degrees on a hot day and not have influenza. A cough can be triggered from allergies, asthma, pollution, bronchitis, pneumonia, chemtrails, medications, smoking, dust, pet dander, mold, a cold or dozens of other imbalances, since it didn't define what type of cough, dry, chronic, acute, productive etc would be associated with bird flu. Muscle aches can also be from numerous other reasons other than Avian flu.
Is There a Avian Flu Vaccine Available?
If there were would you want to risk your life taking it?
The CDC states: “Yearly, adults can average one to three and children three to six influenza-like illnesses (ILIs). The vaccine does not prevent influenza-like illnesses caused by infectious agents other than influenza [strains found in the shot], and many persons vaccinated against influenza will still get the flu.” Translated that means a vaccine can ONLY have the potential to be effective against a particular strain and there are over 800 strains.
As for me, no vaccinations thank you!

Seeing no such line on a recent trip, I cued up, placed my carry-on possessions and articles of clothing onto the conveyor that moves items through X-ray and waited for the dreaded words, “Ma’am, step into the body scanner.” “No,” I replied.
Glancing at me with blatant annoyance, the TSA agent shouted, “Female pat-down!” Another TSA agent ordered me into a portable room enclosure. As I stepped inside the room, I noticed a sign taped to the door reminding TSA personnel, “Do not lock the door.” My anxiety grew as the TSA agent toyed with the lock, oddly pushing the button in and out numerous times, provoking my request for a supervisor. The supervisor arrived - a big supervisor. Big mistake. I assumed having a witness was to my benefit. I was wrong.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins said her biggest concern over a recent report card that assesses successes and shortfalls of the federal 9-11 Commission is the nation’s failure to take seriously the problem of homegrown terrorism.
As the ranking Republican on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Collins closely analyzed the 10th anniversary report card submitted by the Bipartisan Policy Center.
“The Homeland Security Committee first sounded the alarm about homegrown terrorism five years ago, during my chairmanship, and has held more than a dozen hearings on the topic,” Collins said in a statement Wednesday. “As the result of our investigations, we learned that some individuals within the United States, in both our prison system and our communities, are being inspired by al-Qaida’s violent Islamist extremism to plan and execute attacks, often acting as ‘lone wolves’ without direct orders from abroad.”
Although the report card lists successes in the 10 years since the worst terrorist attacks in the nation’s history — including improved airline passenger screening and better information-sharing across agencies — it also highlights recommendations that have yet to be implemented.

Was the massive printing of dollar bills to lift Wall Street (and the rest of us, too) off the rocks last year a kind of fraud? If the U.S. Senate so determines, it may send Mr. Bernanke back home to Princeton. But not even Ron Paul, the Texas Republican sponsor of a bill to subject the Fed to periodic congressional audits, is calling for the Federal Reserve chairman's head.
I wonder, though, just how far we have really come in the past 200-odd years. To give modernity its due, the dollar has cut a swath in the world. There's no greater success story in the long history of money than the common greenback. Of no intrinsic value, collateralized by nothing, it passes from hand to trusting hand the world over. More than half of the $923 billion's worth of currency in circulation is in the possession of foreigners.

On the ground of the yard at one day care center, the radiation was as high as 0.9 microsieverts per hour, or nearly 8 millisieverts per year, while the reading below its roof reached 7.1 microsieverts, according to the environmental group's findings earlier this month, Greenpeace said Monday.
A maximum reading at the high school was 7.9 microsieverts per hour and the other day care center registered 0.2 microsieverts per hour.
People living in areas with radiation of 5 millisieverts or higher per year were ordered out after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, said Kazue Suzuki, a member of the Greenpeace investigative team. "Children should be evacuated until further cleanup work brings down the amount of radioactivity to a safe level."

Narco Wiretap May Have Caught Sheriff Captain
When federal agents eavesdropped on the telephone conversations of several drug trafficking suspects, they heard talk of marijuana sales, money transfers and cross-country drug shipments.
They may have also detected something far more surprising: a Los Angeles County sheriff's captain.
Law enforcement sources have confirmed that Bernice Abram, who is in charge of the sheriff's Carson station, was put on leave after federal authorities notified sheriff's officials that their captain may have been heard on the narcotics wiretap.
Officials are trying to determine whether hers is the voice on the recordings, and if so, what relationship she had with the suspects, according to the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing.

Arizona Cops Caught Tasering Mentally Ill Man
Another citizen video emerged showing a police officer tasering a mentally-ill man who posed no threat to him.
But am I the only one who finds it disturbing that the videographer is not only hoping the man would get tased, but then sounds ecstatic when he actually does get tased?
I’m sure he was elated that he caught the cop in the act of tasing a mentally ill man; a sure hit for Youtube.
But I really have to stress it to these citizen journalists – the more you control your emotions, the less distracting you will be on video.
In other words, either keep your mouth shut or provide a simple narration of what is happening with some quick background of what took place before you started recording.
This is not a game. Save the cheering for the sports bar. Or at least until after it's posted on Youtube.

Arrests For #Filming Cops Viiolates 1st & 14th Amendment
We've had a lot of stories this year about police arresting people for filming them. It's become quite a trend. Even worse, a couple weeks ago, we wrote about a police officer in Massachusetts, Michael Sedergren, who is trying to get criminal wiretapping charges brought against a woman who filmed some police officers beating a guy. This officer claims that the woman violated Massachusetts anti-wiretapping law, a common claim from police in such situations.
Segederin may have been better off if he'd waited a couple weeks for an appeals court ruling that came out Friday, because that ruling found that arresting someone for filming the police is a clear violation of both the First Amendment and the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution. How the case got to this point is a bit complex, but basically, a guy named Simon Glik saw some police arresting someone in Boston, and thought they were using excessive force.
He took out his camera phone and began recording. The police saw that and told him to stop taking pictures. #Cesium Dust From Incineration Covering Japan
High levels of cesium isotopes are cropping up in dust at 42 incineration plants in seven prefectures, including Chiba and Iwate, an Environment Ministry survey of the Kanto and Tohoku regions shows.
According to the report, released late Saturday, the highest cesium levels in the dust ranged from 95,300 becquerels in Fukushima Prefecture and 70,800 becquerels in Chiba Prefecture to 30,000 becquerels in Iwate Prefecture.
But even the lower levels in the dust exceeded 8,000 becquerels per kilogram in Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and Tokyo.

NM State Police Having Sex On Duty
Eyewitness News 4 has obtained surveillance pictures of a State Police officer having sex with a woman on the hood of a car in broad daylight.
State Police aren't saying anything about the photos, but KOB Eyewitness News 4 is pressing for answers.

BBC Journalist May Have Been Shot By US Forces
A BBC journalist who died during a Taliban suicide attack may have been shot dead by US special forces, an independent investigation has found.
Ahmed Omed Khpulwak was one of more than 20 people killed in attacks on a TV station in Uruzgan province, in the south of Afghanistan, on 28 July.
The Taliban was initially blamed for the 25-year-old's death, but an investigation by the Kabul-based Afghanistan Analysts' Network (AAN) said Khpulwak may have been killed by US weaponry once the Taliban attackers were already dead.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. <9501> said Tuesday that a man in his 40s who had worked to help contain the radiation crisis at the firm's crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant has died of acute leukemia.
The total radiation doses the worker received at the plant stood at 0.5 millisievert, TEPCO officials said, adding that the worker's death has nothing to do with his work at the nuclear plant in northeastern Japan, which suffered serious damage from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
The man worked at the Fukushima plant for seven days from early August. His jobs included radiation exposure management, the officials said..
He became ill and was hospitalized after finishing the seven-day work. TEPCO received a report of his death on Aug. 16, the officials said.
A medical checkup prior to his work at the plant showed no problems in his health. He suffered no internal radiation exposure, the officials said.

Female TSA Helps Druggies
A former TSA agent has admitted helping a man accused of running a drug ring repeatedly evade security and smuggle money through the Buffalo Niagara Airport.
Minetta Walker, 43, confessed that she helped the man get around airport security scanners and had warned two of his associates that agents were tailing them.
The behavioural detection officer for the Transportation Safety Administration was caught directing travellers she appeared to know away from security checks.
She would steer them away from security lines where body image scanners or pat-downs might detect large sums of cash and escort them to their gates to they would not be pulled aside for random inspections, it was claimed.
Walker was arrested in March. On Friday, in federal court she admitted helping Derek Frank, who is also charged and accused of running a drug operation, of avoiding security checks.

Backers of liquefied natural gas terminals see renewed hope on the Oregon coast - this time to export the new supplies drillers have uncovered by "fracking" shale formations.
The Oregonian newspaper reports that industry backers of the terminals two years ago laughed off the idea that they could use the terminals to export gas, but now they're talking about just that.
The paper says the economics could allow U.S. producers to double or triple their net by exporting to Asia rather than selling domestically.
That raises fears among some, including Oregon's two U.S. senators, that exporting domestic natural gas is a step toward making the market global and raising prices in the United States for a resource that's abundant domestically.
Asian demand is expected to increase, driven by economic growth in China and India, switching from coal to natural gas.
The Oregonian story says one LNG terminals on the Gulf Coast has gotten approval to retrofit an idle facility and another is seeking it, while British Columbia companies are contemplating multiple export terminals.

How To Decommission Fukushima?
What is actually going to take place at the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant, where word is that the four reactors that were crippled in the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami will eventually be decommissioned?
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) defines "decommissioning" as the process of removing spent fuel from reactors and dismantling all facilities. Ultimately, the site of a decommissioned reactor is meant to be reverted into a vacant lot.
The standard decommissioning process entails six major steps: 1. Remove spent fuel rods, 2. Remove radioactive materials that have become affixed to reactor pipes and containers, 3. Wait for radiation levels to go down with time, 4. Dismantle reactors and other internal vessels and pipes, 5. Dismantle the reactor buildings, and 6. Make the site into a vacant lot.
"Cleaning," "waiting," and "dismantling" are the three key actions in this process. Needless to say, this all needs to be done while simultaneously containing radioactive materials.
NOTE: Who are they kidding? Wait? Melt throughs? For almost 180 days Fukushima continues to spread it's poison throughout the Northern Hemisphere.....the half life of many of the radioactive elements are thousands of years.
Even Chernobyl area is uninhabitable after 25 years.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) defines "decommissioning" as the process of removing spent fuel from reactors and dismantling all facilities. Ultimately, the site of a decommissioned reactor is meant to be reverted into a vacant lot.
The standard decommissioning process entails six major steps: 1. Remove spent fuel rods, 2. Remove radioactive materials that have become affixed to reactor pipes and containers, 3. Wait for radiation levels to go down with time, 4. Dismantle reactors and other internal vessels and pipes, 5. Dismantle the reactor buildings, and 6. Make the site into a vacant lot.
"Cleaning," "waiting," and "dismantling" are the three key actions in this process. Needless to say, this all needs to be done while simultaneously containing radioactive materials.
NOTE: Who are they kidding? Wait? Melt throughs? For almost 180 days Fukushima continues to spread it's poison throughout the Northern Hemisphere.....the half life of many of the radioactive elements are thousands of years.
Even Chernobyl area is uninhabitable after 25 years.

76 Trillion Becquerels Of Plutonium Released
The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA)'s daily press conference is ongoing (August 29). The NISA spokesman Moriyama mentions neptunium-239's conversion ratio to plutonium-239 as 1 to 1.
The amount of plutonium-239 has increased 23,000-fold.
On August 15 I wrote about neptunium-239, half life of about 2 days, having been detected in large quantity in Iitate-mura, 35 kilometers from Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant. I had to take down the second post on the subject, but the information was correct.
Now, NISA is suddenly mentioning neptunium-239. Admission of wide dispersion of this nuclide and resultant plutonium-239 may be finally forthcoming, after more than 5 months.

The plant is still leaking low-level radiation nearly six months after the earthquake and tsunami triggered a nuclear meltdown.
About 80,000 people were evacuated and many are still living in shelters.
The Japanese government unveiled guidelines this week with the aim of halving radiation in problem areas in two years, but for spots with very high readings it could take much longer to reach safe levels.
'I can't deny the possibility that it could be a long time before people can return to and live in regions with high radiation levels,' outgoing Prime Minister Naoto Kan was quoted by domestic media as telling Fukushima Governor Yuhei Sato.

Do You Have a New “Smart” Meter?
Over the past year-and-a-half, various power companies have been removing the analogue [disc-like] meters placed on your homes, apartments and businesses, and installing what they call their new “Smart” Meters. This is part of the larger plan throughout the US and Canada where these meters have already been installed. “According to the Edison Foundation, more than 8 million Smart Meters have been deployed by electric utilities in the US and nearly 60 million should be in place by 2020.”(1) In Canada, 2 million of these meters are planned. “BC Hydro has a $930-million rollout of ‘Smart’ Meters” installation that began on July 4.
As Marti Oakley has just written, the best way to look at what’s happening is to: “follow the money. In late October 2009, the [US] Department of Energy announced the $3.4 billion in stimulus grants under AARA. Award selections were announced for 100 smart grid projects that are intended to lead to the rollout of approximately 18-million smart meters, 1-million in-home energy management displays, and 170,000 smart thermostats, as well as numerous advanced transformers and load management devices.”
There has been no public discussion on the known biological hazards, both to humans and our pets, with these new meters. There has been no testing of these meters for any kind of safety. However, utilities Public Relations “spin” includes that: they will cut power costs to consumers, thus lowering your monthly bills; help customers reduce power consumption during peak times; and the meters can be read anytime, via a planned new “grid” in the works for the entire country that will use these meters. Utility companies insist these meters are safe.
“Smart” Meters are a new type of electronic device that monitors electricity, natural gas, and water usage via radio frequency (RF or rf) in an invisible but dangerous range, between 2.4GHz [GigaHertz] and 5.8Ghz. Do You Have a New “Smart” Meter?
Over the past year-and-a-half, various power companies have been removing the analogue [disc-like] meters placed on your homes, apartments and businesses, and installing what they call their new “Smart” Meters. This is part of the larger plan throughout the US and Canada where these meters have already been installed. “According to the Edison Foundation, more than 8 million Smart Meters have been deployed by electric utilities in the US and nearly 60 million should be in place by 2020.”(1) In Canada, 2 million of these meters are planned. “BC Hydro has a $930-million rollout of ‘Smart’ Meters” installation that began on July 4.
As Marti Oakley has just written, the best way to look at what’s happening is to: “follow the money. In late October 2009, the [US] Department of Energy announced the $3.4 billion in stimulus grants under AARA. Award selections were announced for 100 smart grid projects that are intended to lead to the rollout of approximately 18-million smart meters, 1-million in-home energy management displays, and 170,000 smart thermostats, as well as numerous advanced transformers and load management devices.”
There has been no public discussion on the known biological hazards, both to humans and our pets, with these new meters. There has been no testing of these meters for any kind of safety. However, utilities Public Relations “spin” includes that: they will cut power costs to consumers, thus lowering your monthly bills; help customers reduce power consumption during peak times; and the meters can be read anytime, via a planned new “grid” in the works for the entire country that will use these meters. Utility companies insist these meters are safe.

Confronting The Military Industrial Complex
The majority of Americans oppose the U.S. government’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and believe that defense spending is the area that must be cut to reduce the federal deficit. However, many of us feel powerless to stop the ever-increasing bombings, invasions, and occupations of nations which pose no threat to us.
Most of us have acquiesced to the “military-industrial complex” (a term coined by Dwight Eisenhower, who devoted his farewell address in 1961 to its “grave implications”). Having worked with abused people for more than 25 years,Many Americans have developed what Bob Marley—the poet laureate of oppressed people around the world— called “mental slavery.”
Social scientists have also recognized this phenomenon of subjugation resulting in demoralization and defeatism. Paulo Freire, the Brazilian educator and author of Pedagogy of the Oppressed, and Ignacio Martin-Baró, the El Salvadoran social psychologist and popularizer of “liberation psychology,” understood this psychological phenomenon of fatalism, and they helped their people overcome it. We must first acknowledge the reality that for millions of Americans, subjugation has in fact resulted in demoralization and fatalism. Then, we can begin to heal from a “battered people’s syndrome” of sorts and together begin to fight for democracy. it does not surprise me to see that when we as individuals or as a society eat crap for too long, we become psychologically too weak to take action.
Democracy means that if the majority of us want to stop senseless wars and wasteful military spending, then this should be stopped. Are we in the majority? How can we take action?
911 Ten Years Later, What Have We Learned?

How well has the US government’s official account of the event held up over the decade?
Not very well. The chairman, vice chairman, and senior legal counsel of the 9/11 Commission wrote books partially disassociating themselves from the commission’s report. They said that the Bush administration put obstacles in their path, that information was withheld from them, that President Bush agreed to testify only if he was chaperoned by Vice President Cheney and neither were put under oath, that Pentagon and FAA officials lied to the commission and that the commission considered referring the false testimony for investigation for obstruction of justice.
One would think that if a handful of Arabs managed to outwit not merely the CIA and FBI but all 16 US intelligence agencies, all intelligence agencies of our allies including Mossad, the National Security Council, the State Department, NORAD, airport security four times on one morning, air traffic control, etc., the President, Congress, and the media would be demanding to know how such an improbable event could occur. Instead, the White House put up a wall of resistance to finding out, and Congress and the media showed little interest.
Moreover, what do 1,500 architects and engineers have to gain from being ridiculed as conspiracy theorists? They certainly will never receive another government contract, and many surely lost business as a result of their “anti-American” stance. Their competitors must have made hay out of their “unpatriotic doubts.” Indeed, my reward for reporting on how matters stand a decade after the event will be mail telling me that as I hate America so much I should move to Cuba.
Today Americans are unsafe, not because of terrorists and domestic extremists, but because they have lost their civil liberties and have no protection from unaccountable government power. One would think that how this came about would be worthy of public debate and congressional hearings.
