Natalia Manzurova, was a 35 year old engineer when she and 13 other scientists were called to Chernobyl in April 1986. She is now one of the few survivors of the 800,000 “cleaners” who were in charge of the removal and burial of everything contaminated in what is now called the dead zone.
In order to keep her pension she was forced to spend 4 1/2 years helping clean the abandoned town of Pripyat, less than two miles from Chernobyl. The plant workers lived there before they were abruptly evacuated.
Manzurova claims she was disabled at 43 suffering from radiation poisoning. Now 59 and a strong advocate for radiation victims worldwide. Natalia has the scar on her thro
