Former USGS Geologist Jim Berkland is predicting a major earthquake in California this month.
The window starts on Saturday and we are only one day away. The term 'seismic window' has been used by Berkland since the 1970s. Jim Berkland's window starts on March 19th and closes on the 26th.
Berkland attributes his prediction on fish die offs, beachings, animal behavior, moon position, and tidal forces. Jim notes this month is "the strongest in many years" for all three.
TheWeatherSpace.com Meteorologist Kevin Martin has taken a hand at predicting earthquakes as well, but notices at times Berkland's windows go without a quake in the California region. When asked this, Martin had only a few things to say.
"I've worked on quake triggers since 1999 and all I can tell you is I've noticed a pattern between the low and high pressure systems in this area around when earthquakes happen. I've been able to match Berkland's window and narrow those days down to probable days of elevated risk."
Martin has told us that he does see just two days that may trigger a quake if you add his trigger to Berkland's list.
March 22nd and 25th are the only days he believes is the strongest out of the week long window Berkland gives.
